Aguas Zarcas, Limon - Costa Rica
In 2016 we finally could purchase Reserva Regia, after 10 years of negotiation and securing funds. This piece of 43 Ha of primary forest along the Rio Aguas Zarcas, is a rare find this close to civilisation. The previous owners, Doña Elia y Don Victor Villegas cared a lot for this forest and did not cut the precious timbers at any time -to make a profit. We are grateful for this -and it gives us the opportunity to reach primary forest within 30 min walk from our station and nursery. You will also see the sharp line between secondery forest and primary forest, when you are walking up there. The forest climate is significantly different and the species of plants differs as well ...very educative features.
We are planning to create a tree house station for students and visitors. It will be situated on a ridge, at the border of the reserve.
